The landfills in VSRU & SSU were sorted to remove any sites already addressed in Permits.
“Active” landfills are permitted landfill sites that are currently accepting waste for disposal.
“Certified Post Closure” landfills are former landfills that have stopped accepting waste, properly closed the landfill under the permit, performed all necessary post-closure care and have demonstrated that the site is stable.
“Post Closure Care” landfills are permitted landfills that have stopped accepting waste, properly closed the landfill under the permit and are in the process of performing all necessary post-closure care to stabilize the site.
“Unknown Status” landfills are sites that have been listed in the solid waste database at some time and the current status is unknown. The Illinois EPA is currently in the process of researching these sites to determine the status and will move the sites to another list or remove them if it is determined that they have been erroneously listed as a landfill.
Sites in the Illinois EPA Bureau Of Land State Sites Unit that have been flagged as "landfill" and NOT already addressed by the Bureau Of Land Permits Section.
