Description: This coverage represents the Community Water Suppy (CWS) wells with Maximum Setback Zone Ordinances adopted. These ordinances are enacted by a Municipality or County Board and provide additional protection for a CWS well up to 2500 feet as specified in the Illinois Environmental Protection Act. Maximum Setback Zones may be circular or irregular. A 2500 foot Maximum Setback Zone is restricted to those CWS wells that are adjacent to navigable waterways.
Description: This coverage contains the Phase I Wellhead Protection Areas (WHPA) for all Community Water Supply Wells in the State. Phase I WHPA's are a fixed 1,000 foot radius from the wellhead. These WHPA's were established by statutory and regulatory provisions of Section 14.3 and 17.1 of the Illinois Groundwater Protection Act.
